This is one of my favorite rooms on the planet. Ever since I was a small boy I have been intrigued by the large, roundish, room with a dome for a ceiling and a mini-dome at the top. This is my favorite photo for April 11.

I have two favorite photos for this date, one from a conference, and the other from an art exhibit and auction.
On our way home from our niece’s wedding in North Carolina, we stopped at several places in central lllinois as part of a family history search. One of those places was the public library in Beecher City (population 500). To my surprise, the library had several file folders, several inches thick, with a lot of information on a bunch of Dotys that lived in the Beecher City area. Quite a few Dotys are buried in a cemetery a few miles outside of town.
If you have been following this series, it will not surprise you to known that I was again out at the Don Edwards San Francisco Bay National Wildlife Refuge. But this was a rainy day. There were no wading birds to be seen. It was a gloomy day
We were in California for our usual spring trip to visit family. I found the calla lily in my mother-in-law’s back yard. This is my favorite photo for April 7.
It was a wedding on the beach. It had rained the night before and the sand was cold and wet. It was also chilly and windy. None of that mattered. It was a great day. I wanted a happy photo of my niece’s face. This is my favorite image for April 6.
I know what you are thinking. This is not an impressive photo. You are right. It isn’t. But this is one of the two favorite photos I found for April 5 in my “favorite photos” folder. But this is a special photo.
We were flying home from Fremont California. Our second flight from Las Vegas to Columbus usually take us north of the Grand Canyon so I get a window seat on the right side of the plane. Usually I see the Grand Canyon off in the distance, but this trip our flight path took us right over the Grand Canyon. This is one of two first place favorite images for April 4.
Not only is this my favorite photo for April 3, it is one of my all time favorite flower images.
My niece, Bridget, is a dancer. I captured this moment during a worship service at a Community of Christ World Conference in “The Auditorium”, Independence Missouri. This is my favorite photo for April 2.
You will see Bridget again later this month.
Almost every year in the spring we go to California to visit family in the Bay Area, and some years our visit coincides with the bloom of California Golden Poppies.
When I posted this photo on one of my Facebook pages, a friend posted this happy comment:Â “I LOVE this egret photo!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Look at the right wing trailing in the water. How DO you capture these?!”
Good question.
Here are my favorite photos for the month of March. The story behind this “favorite photos by date” project is here.
I was hurrying across Texas with places to go and things to do, when I spotted a patch of bluebonnets near the highway. I didn’t have much time for taking pictures, but I pulled off on the shoulder and grabbed my camera.
Bruce Munro did a big and impressive light exhibit at the Franklin Park Conservatory. I had such good time that I went back more than one evening to photograph the various displays. This is just one of the light displays. This is my favorite image for March 30.
The San Francisco Bay National Wildlife Refuge is one of my favorite places on the planet. Usually I am there to photograph wading birds. But this particular year I was there when the poppies were in bloom. My brother-in-law (who is also an avid photographer) and I had a great time. This is my favorite image for March 29.
So many emotions. Even two years later.
“Harry Potter is in the house!” Our grandson Finn came over to play and he brought his Harry Potter glasses. This is my favorite photo for March 27.
Our grandson Terran came over after school. We did all kinds of things, including playing checkers. This is my favorite image for March 26.
Sorting through a loved one’s belongings after they are gone is not an easy task, for all kinds of reasons. Despite all of the sadness, there are some good moments, like finding something that brings back special memories. This is my favorite photo for March 25.
America’s National Parks are natural, environmental, and photographic treasures. They are high on the list of preferred destinations for professional and amateur photographers alike. To help you show up at right places at the best times to create beautiful images, I put together this ongoing series of articles.
Posted January 22, 2017. Updated and re-posted April 2, 2019.
Our grandson Ryan was awarded his Eagle Scout medal and plaque. His older brother Andrew received his in November 2017. This is my favorite image for March 24.
Our children were all home in the spring so I did a portrait of the three of them. This is one of my two favorite photos for March 23, and one of my all time favorite photos.
We were going into Costco and I was intrigued by the repeating pattern of the shopping carts a lined up in rows. This is my favorite photo for March 22.
I was out for a walk and spotted this flower. I grabbed a photo with my iPhone and modified it in my phone with the app Painteresque. This is my favorite photo for March 21.
This is the only photo for March 20 in my favorite photos folder, so it is my favorite photo for this date. It is not a great photo from a technical or artistic point of view, but it is a special photo from an emotional point of view. Sunny jumped up in my lap to nap for the evening while I watched TV.
Chesapeake Conservancy Osprey Cam
Sierra Club picked 6 of their favorite spring bird watching webcams. You can see all of them here.
This is a happy sign! Real spring might be arriving soon! This is my first robin of spring, not to see, but to photograph.
It was a cold and snowy St. Patrick’s day in Columbus Ohio, and Sunny and I were out for a walk. The snow depth was perfect for leaving paw prints. This is my favorite photo for March 17.
