If you haven’t done so already, read this article first: Don’t get ripped off! Part Seven. Comparison Test One: Telephoto Phone Lens vs DLSR and Zoom Lens. It will explain the background and methodology behind this comparison test.
I purchased the 8-18X telephoto lens to check it out. Like the lens in Comparison Test One, it is another Chinese lens for smart phones. The ads for this lens say this lens is amazingly sharp. It is being sold for $59.99. That is an outrageous price of course. I found one on Amazon for less than $12. I knew when I bought it that it would not be worth $12. I had read other online reviews for this lens which point out how bad it is, but I wanted to see for myself.

Buying a Headlamp for Night Photography: The Essential Feature

A red headlamp is an essential tool for night photography. Before you rush out and buy one, make sure it has the most essential feature (other than the red LED). Some inexpensive headlamps have this feature and some very expensive ones don’t, so cost is not the issue.

Make or Buy Your Own Inexpensive “White Light” Solar Filter to Watch and Photograph the Eclipse

Take a cheap smart phone telephoto lens you can buy at Amazon for $15, sell it for $54.95, say it is a limited half price offer, and imply the lens will do amazing things that every well informed photographer knows the cheap lens absolutely can’t do.

A lot of photographers have discovered their almost sharp lens was actually a very sharp lens once they tweaked the micro-adjustment settings. You will get sharper images if you adjust the settings for your specific camera and lens combinations. You do this using the micro-adjustment settings in the camera menu along with a lens calibration tool which you can buy or make yourself.

There’s no question that in some complex metering situations, an incident light meter can be quicker, faster, simpler, and more accurate than the meter in your camera. Many incident light meters can also measure light from an electronic flash, a huge bonus when you are using a flash in the manual mode.

I never know when I might be asked to do some portraits and having some studio gear along helps create better images (especially when natural light is not a very good option). Should you spend $499 on a Canon 600EX II-RT speedlite, or $138 on Yongnuo’s nearly identical clone, the YN600EX-RT-II? And what about the radio transmitters? Canon’s is $285 and the Yongnuo copy is $95.00. So you can buy three Yongnuo speedlites plus the radio transmitter for a little more than the price of one Canon speedlite. The price advantage is clear, but what about quality, reliability, and service issues? (Prices as of November 18, 2020.)

Some of the Best Off-Camera Flash Equipment
There are lots of advantages to getting your flash off the camera, and it is probably much less expensive than you think. If you already have a shoe mount speedlite and if your camera has a built in pop up flash a simple $35 optical slave (see below) is all you need to get your flash off the camera.

Take a cheap smart phone lens that people can buy at Amazon for $16.99 or less, jack up the price to $56, make outrageous claims, and see how may people you can sucker into buying the item at the higher price. They even used the same “questionable” technologist who has multiple identities.

Ansel Adams’ View Camera is Up for Auction

This is the only one of the view cameras used by Ansel Adams that has come up for auction. He used this camera from 1964 to 1968. The auction outfit includes includes three lenses, extra bag bellows, a compendium lens hood, Wratten gelatin filters, a dark cloth, tripod, and carrying case.
