Favorite Photo, October 5

Michelle and Aaron, Kalamazoo, Michigan

Michelle and Aaron, Kalamazoo, Michigan, October 5, 1996.

The choice for today’s favorite was really difficult. I have several favorite photos taken  in Michigan, Colorado, and Banff National Park, and a couple of them are among my all time favorite photos. And there was also a special wedding. I ultimately chose two most favorite images for this date. This is one of them.

It was my happy privilege to be the photographer for their wedding. Michelle’s family and my family have been long time friends, which made this an extra special treat.

Coyote, Rocky Mountain National Park, Colorado. October 5, 2005.

This coyote was walking along a ridge above Bear Lake Road. Several people in cars ahead of me spotted the coyote, stopped their cars and got out. The coyote immediately left the ridge and disappeared in the trees. Everyone else got back in their cars and drove off. I stayed in my car and waited. The coyote returned to the ridge and walked along. I picked up my camera, pointed it out the window and waited. The coyote was looking straight ahead. At one point the coyote stopped, still looking straight ahead. I said “Look left.” The coyote looked to the left and I clicked the shutter.

This is my other most favorite image for this date.

Two Jack Lake and Mount Rundle. Banff. October 5, 2012.

My second favorite photo for this date was taken during the four day trip to Banff National Park that I talked about in my October 4 favorite photo post. Every morning I was at Two Jack Lake long before sunrise, hoping for a great image of Mount Rundle. One morning the clouds were so lake the mountain was completely hidden. For another two mornings the light was poor. Only one morning out of the four had great light. This is that morning.

Moon Set Behind Cascade Mountain, Banff. October 5, 2012.

Later the same day I caught the moon setting behind Cascade Mountain.

Family, Canoe on Vermilion Lakes. October 5, 2012.

I was at Vermilion Lakes that evening saw this family in a canoe. they are all looking to the left at a grizzly bear that came down to the lake shore.

Mackinac Bridge at Dawn, Michigan. October 5, 2006.

Several years earlier I was in Michigan’s Upper Peninsua. I wanted to catch the early morning light behind the bridge.

Cut River Gorge from the Cut River Bridge. Michigan’s Upper Peninsula. Oct 5, 2006.

Later the same morning I was at the Cur River Bridge, a great place to capture the fall colors in the v-shaped notch the bridge crosses.

Elk, Fall River Road, RMNP, Colorado. October 5, 2007.

Going back to Colorado, I spent a few days looking for elk in all the typical meadows in Rocky Mountain National Park. I did not see a single elk. I decided to drive up Fall River Road to do some high country landscape photography and to my surprise a big bull elk came walking down the narrow dirt road and walked right by my car.

Trail Ridge Road, Long’s Peak, Rocky Mountain National Park, Colorado. October 5, 2007.

And finally, I did get my high country landscape at sunset.

October 5 is a very good photography day!
