Trip with John, Day 1. My brother John had not been back to Colorado since 1969, so we decided it was time to go on a trip to Colorado and visit our favorite childhood places. The fall colors were gone, but this was the only time we could both make the trip. This sign marks a very special childhood place.
When we were growing up our parents took us camping at O’Haver Lake several times every year.
To give you a better idea why this lake is so special, here is another photo at a better time of year.
It was Halloween season in downtown Gunnison and this group of residents were doing the classic Michael Jackson dance to “Thriller”.
We stopped here to re-create a photo from the 1950s.
The small tree on the right is much bigger in the 2012 photo. You can just barely see some tiny evergreen trees coming up on the left side of the 1950s photo. They are much bigger in the 2012 photo. The trees had grown so much it took us a while to be sure we were at the same spot on the road. Only at this location did the point of the aspen grove in the distance line up with the bottom of the huge rock slide on Mt. Avery.

Mt. Antero (left) and Mt. Princeton’s Chalk Cliffs in the moonlight. Collegiate Peaks, Colorado. October 27, 2012.
As I was taking pictures on a tripod to allow for long exposures I heard a vehicle behind me coming down the road. Before it passed my location I opened the shutter to record its taillights as it drive down the road.
