The advice above came from a sports editor long ago. It is great advice. I took 92 photos at yesterday’s football game. The newspaper only wanted 2 or 3 images. You can see them below.
The number of “sports and events” photos our small town weekly newspaper wants from me varies a lot. Sometimes they want a half dozen. On rare occasions they want a dozen or more. Some weeks only one or two. I am one of several volunteer photographers in our little town and we each cover different events and subjects for the paper.
Sometimes they want an article to go along with the photos. This is the short article I sent to them late last night:
The Demons Meet the Cardinals
by Jim Doty, Jr.
Monday afternoon, Lamoni’s middle school football team went to Leon to play Central Decatur. It was a tough game and Lamoni lost, 32-8. But they did provide all of the excitement late in the 4th quarter. Lamoni’s Rafael Rosario recovered a Cardinal fumble deep in Cardinal territory. Blaze Bruce carried the ball for 11 yards and a Lamoni first down. Rosario carried the ball for another 9 yards. To cap it all off, Carver Cougill threw a pass to Rosario for a Lamoni touchdown. Allister Courtney scored the two point conversion for Lamoni.
The photos I sent to the paper follow, along with the captions. The captions for the 2nd and 3rd photo correlate with the article.
