Outtake of the Day: Poses

Poses

Poses and I were traveling across far northern Michigan and we stopped at Legs Inn in Cross Village Michigan for lunch. (“Poses” is her professional name.) Fortunately for us, we were seated at a table that had just about perfect portrait light. Nice, neutral light was coming in from an outside window on the right (camera right), and soft, warm interior light was coming from the left.

I just had to get out my camera and create some portraits.  This is one of my favorite outtakes. In the movies, outtakes are scenes that are cut from the final version of the movie. In still photography, outtakes are the happenstance photos you take in between formal shooting sessions.  This casual outtake looks like a formal portrait.

Cross Village Michigan is at the northern end of the “Tunnel of Trees”, one of the prettiest drives in all of Michigan. Catch M-119 in Harbor Springs and drive north to Cross Village. The Tunnel of Trees is full of tourists during the fall color season. Legs Inn is a great place to eat.

This is a more typical outtake, later in the day.
