I was in California in 2011 to collect family stories on a digital recorder. One of my stops was my cousin Sue and her family. Our mothers are sisters. Sue has a remarkable memory and I recorded her stories of family events.

One of the things we talked about was family gatherings at grandpa’s house in Haxtun Colorado. With grandpa, his six children, their spouses, and all of us cousins, that added up to 25 people packed into grandpa’s house for Thanksgiving and Christmas. Finding beds for everyone was a challenge. When my cousins and I were really young they would stack several of us on grandpa’s old sofa bed.

While we were reminiscing, Sue told me she has that old sofa bed on her back porch. What a happy surprise. So we decided we just had to take a picture of all of us on the sofa bed. This is Sue, her husband Ken, their daughter Tori, and me. This is my most favorite photo for this date. So many happy childhood memories of holidays with the family.

While I was there I did some portraits of Tori.

As you can see, we were having fun.

We were vising family in Texas and our grandson Andrew (on the right) had soccer practice. This is another favorite photo for this date.
