At 11 AM Jim and Jennifer called to tell us they were coming over. They showed up quite some time later (roads are pretty bad) and they were packed for the duration. They may be here through Christmas based on what we heard on TV tonight. Having their power off is inconvenient for them, but it is nice to have them and our grandson staying here. Jared arrived from Iowa several days ago.
We turned on the TV to check the weather and power situation, but the cable is out so we jerry rigged kind of an antenna so we are getting “snowy” reception of a few local stations (pun intended). Cable access to the internet is out too, so I am using dial-up internet access for the first time in a long time. Everything is so SLOWWWW this way. I am glad I kept my dial up account for occasions such as this (and times I am travelling and can’t get wireless access).
My day didn’t end up being anything like I planned. In many ways it was better than I planned – kind of an early Christmas without opening presents. For lots of others, today is worse than they planned. It is no fun to be without electrical power and we have been through that several times on cold winter days. Adaptability is important in life, and not just for dealing with the weather.
Wherever you are and whatever your circumstances, may you be blessed this Christmas!
