Independence Day!

Several of my ancestors fought in the American Revolution, including three sets of fathers and sons, but I know the most about Elijah Wadleigh, my 4th great-grandfather (1757-1800). I have a copy of his diary in which he describes the day to day events of his involvement in the war.

He enlisted in the 1st company of the 3rd New Hampshire Regiment, and later served in the 9th and 5th companies. He was part of the Sullivan Expedition in the Finger Lakes area of New York, the Burgoyne Campaign, the fall of Fort Ticonderoga, and the Battle of Saratoga. His original diary is at Cornell University. He spent the rest of his life in New Hampshire.
