Long time friends know my routine. At the precise minute spring, summer, fall, and winter begin, weather permitting, I take a picture of the sun with the same camera and lens in the same location. Today it was at 9:46 am CDT, the precise moment when the sun was directly over the equator. Here in Iowa, clouds often mess with my project.
I repeat the photo at solar noon when the sun is at its highest point in the sky. Using the street light pole I have a visual reference of the sun’s elevation for any season of the year. Solar noon is not noon on the clock. It is the precise time of day when the sun is at its highest point in the sky and due south of your location.
