I began the day by backtracking a bit. From Buena Vista I went north on U.S. 285 just far enough to stop at a picnic area on a hill east of town. This is one of my favorite views of Mt. Princeton and I wanted to capture it with all of the winter snow.
After getting my Mt. Princeton image, I went back south on U.S. 285. After crossing Poncha Pass, south of Poncha Springs Colorado, it enters the north end of the San Luis Valley. On this trip it the north end of the valley a snow covered winter wonderland.
My goal was to shoot at Great Sand Dunes National Park. It is a great place to take pictures. There was no snow on the dunes.
Deer were feeding on the sparse vegetation with the dunes in the background.
I watched as one by one the deer crossed the park road.
As it get close to sunset the dunes turn into an almost chocolate brown and the low angle of the sun enhances the wind rippled dunes.
