Digital Photography Exposure for Dummies
Jim Doty, Jr

I think this is a great companion book to Tim Clark’s book mentioned above. Exposure seems like it should be on everyone’s mind when shooting images, but in the digital point and shoot and camera phone age, I have seen that the majority of camera users haven’t a clue what exposure means except for the act of pushing the button. The first step is an understanding light and the measurement of it. From the simple to complex Doty takes the reader into increasingly difficult and creative terrain and shows how the camera and meter combine to allow the photographer to create stunning photographs. Essential to this is the understanding of how meters work and the effect of shutter speeds and aperture not only on exposure, but creative composition. Finally Doty takes the reader into real life to show how exposure is important in a variety of real life situation. This is another solid book for the both the beginner and intermediate photographer, and a must read for learning how to get the most out of light. The book finishes up with a great discussion of the “Ten Decisions that Will Cost You.” Great advice!
