The Best Illustrated History of Photography

Photography: The Definitive Visual History by Tom Ang

Photography: The Definitive Visual History by Tom Ang

When I picked this book up off the shelf, I couldn’t put it down, at least not until I put it down on the check out desk and bought it. There have been some very fine illustrated history of photography books that have come and gone, but this is far and away my favorite.

Photography: The Definitive Visual History by Tom Ang is a visual feast and a photographic treasure. Lavishly illustrated it takes you through the whole history of photography in a fascinating way. It is receiving rave reviews at Amazon which you can read at this link.

Beginning in the early 1800s and continuing up through the digital revolution, it is chock-a-block full of deservedly famous photos, but it also has load of wonderful photos you have probably never seen before. It dissects some of the photos, analyzes them and tells their stories in depth.

In addition to tracing the history of imagery, it also follows the technological advances that have transformed photography.

Kudos to Tom Ang for doing a terrific job.
