Snow and ice has hit our part of the country. 207,000 people in our county are without power and over 300,000 state wide. Melissa’s surpervisor called this morning at 5:25 AM to tell her to stay home, the medical clinic would be closed due to the weather. That was a nice surprise so Melissa had an unexpected day at home. At 9 AM our children who live across town called to tell us their power is off. <\/p>\n
click the page links to the right to continue<\/em> At 11 AM Jim and Jennifer called to tell us they were coming over. They showed up quite some time later (roads are pretty bad) and they were packed for the duration. They may be here through Christmas based on what we heard on TV tonight. Having their power off is inconvenient for them, but it is nice to have them and our grandson staying here. Jared arrived from Iowa several days ago.<\/p>\n We turned on the TV to check the weather and power situation, but the cable is out so we jerry rigged kind of an antenna so we are getting “snowy” reception of a few local stations (pun intended). Cable access to the internet is out too, so I am using dial-up internet access for the first time in a long time. Everything is so SLOWWWW this way. I am glad I kept my dial up account for occasions such as this (and times I am travelling and can’t get wireless access).<\/p>\n My day didn’t end up being anything like I planned. In many ways it was better than I planned – kind of an early Christmas without opening presents. For lots of others, today is worse than they planned. It is no fun to be without electrical power and we have been through that several times on cold winter days.
