As a photo editor said long ago, “Take lots of photos and send me the very best.”<\/span><\/p>\n

The “Living Art Studios” dance recital was Saturday night. It is one of the biggest events of the year in our little town. Yesterday I sent a small selection of images from the recital to the local newspaper which is published weekly on Thursday. I usually send 6 to 10 images and they usually publish from 3 to 6 and on really slow news week they post even more.\u00a0 Today I am taking one last look at all the dance images for any additional favorites for this event.\u00a0 Here in this screen capture from Adobe Bridge are the first 20 shutter clicks (one RAW and one JPEG image for each click) with one of my cameras.<\/span><\/p>\n

Good photographers take a lot of pictures of important subjects and then pick the very best. There are 14 photos of Catharine who is introducing the recital. She is the creative spark behind Living Art Studios. (There are also two photos of a cheerleader from the local college.) Catharine is very expressive and I wanted to get just the right image. <\/span><\/p>\n

As I went through them I picked two favorites out of the 14 images. Then I asked Melissa (my wife) to come in to the office and give me her opinion. I clicked through all 14 photos in screen filling versions and asked her to pick her favorites. I did not tell her which ones were my favorites. She picked the same two that I picked. Of the two favorites, which I will call A and B, I give A a slight edge and she gives B a slight edge. I am going to optimize photo B and add it to the folder of my favorite recital photos.<\/span><\/p>\n

There are 10 different dance class groups at Living Art Studios and each class did one number at the recital. In addition there were several soloists.\u00a0 The Graceland Cadets from the local college also danced.\u00a0 I took 20 or so photos of each group and picked at least one favorite image of each group or soloist. I will post the favorites for parents, extended families, and friends later today.\u00a0\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

I had a 70-300mm lens on my Canon 7D2 and took 207 images.<\/p>\n

I had a 24-105mm lens on my Canon 5D3 and took 150 images.<\/p>\n
