Early settlers were farmers and loggers and a large lumber mill stood at this intersection until the early 1900s. A large general store at this intersection burned in the early 1940s. According to Wikipedia, Burgess Corners\u00a0 &#8220;began as a sawmill settlement in 1877 and was named after mill owner E. H. Burgess. A post office operated in Burgess from February 28, 1877 until July 14, 1904.&#8221;<\/p>\n<div id=\"attachment_34943\" style=\"width: 910px\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\"><a href=\"https:\/\/www.blog.jimdoty.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/240719-Burgess-Corners-iP-7494-w9.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-34943\" class=\"size-full wp-image-34943\" src=\"https:\/\/www.blog.jimdoty.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/240719-Burgess-Corners-iP-7494-w9.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"900\" height=\"505\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.blog.jimdoty.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/240719-Burgess-Corners-iP-7494-w9.jpg 900w, https:\/\/www.blog.jimdoty.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/240719-Burgess-Corners-iP-7494-w9-300x168.jpg 300w, https:\/\/www.blog.jimdoty.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/240719-Burgess-Corners-iP-7494-w9-768x431.jpg 768w, https:\/\/www.blog.jimdoty.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/240719-Burgess-Corners-iP-7494-w9-500x281.jpg 500w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 900px) 100vw, 900px\" \/><\/a><p id=\"caption-attachment-34943\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Filling Station, 1920.<\/p><\/div>\n<p>Despite the 1920 date on this sign on the front door, an information sign inside the store says this building was built in 1922.<\/p>\n<p>On past trips to this store the front door was locked and taking pictures through the windows was the only way to get images of the inside.\u00a0 On this trip the front door was unlocked with a sign on the counter asking visitors not to take the historic objects inside. It&#8217;s called trust. It is no longer there.<\/p>\n<p>If cute, 100 year old stores and historic objects are your thing, this place is worth a stop.
