This map will show you where Comet ZTF (C\/2022 E3) will be every night at 9 pm local time from tonight through February 11. 9 pm is approximate (the map might look like this before or after 9 pm), and the difference depends on how far east or west you are located in your time zone.<\/p>\n\n\n

Tonight the comet, the North Star, and Dubhe (one of the pointer stars in the bowl of the Big Dipper) form a large triangle. See the sky map below that I marked in green.<\/div>\n

Start at Polaris, the North Star, and go up and a little to the left and look for something faint, fuzzy, and green. Binoculars will help. The comet will be higher every night and almost straight up overhead by February 5 when it will be close to the bright star Capella.<\/div>\n

On February 10 it will be close to Mars which looks like a bright yellowish star.<\/div>\n<\/div>\n

Comet ZTF around 4 am in early February.<\/p><\/div>\n<\/div>\n

You can find Comet ZTF around 4 am the first few days of February. Look for the two bright stars Capella low in the northwest and Vega rising in the northeast. the comet is above and to the right of Capella. The comet will move to the left (west) toward Capella and be closest to Capella on February 5. After February 5 the comet will continue to the left of Capella. You will need to start looking at 3:00 or 3:30 am or the comet will be too low in the sky.<\/div>\n
