Legendary Brooklyn based photographer George Pitts passed Saturday, March 4, 2017 after a prolonged illness. While he was not famous with the general public, he was an icon in the photography world and much loved by those who worked with him. He was the founding Director of Photography at Vibe<\/em> magazine. He was an assistant professor of photography at Parsons School of Design, and be became the Directory of Photography at Life<\/em> magazine in 2004. His work appeared in The New York Times<\/em> Magazine<\/em>, New York Magazine<\/em>, Entertainment Weekly<\/em>, Vice<\/em>, The Paris Review<\/em>, and other publications. <\/p>\n\n\n

In addition to being a photographer and photo editor, George was a painter, educator, and writer.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

In an interview with George he said he liked to photograph ordinary people, so a lot of his personal photography work was with people who are not famous.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
