April 30, 2011.

After four days in California doing the family history thing (see the prior articles in this series), I had a change in plans. The next leg of my family history trip had to be postponed to a later date, which meant I had two extra days to do whatever I wanted. I decided to take the two extra days and go back to southern Utah.

I arrived in Arches National Park in the late afternoon and headed for Balanced Rock. I looked for a spot where I could get balanced rock and two other sandstone formations. I wanted some large boulders in the foreground too. When I found my spit I put on a 17mm wide angle lens and set the aperture to f/11 to give me plant of depth of field. This is my favorite photo for this date.

Turret ArcTurret Arch at Dusk, Arches National Park, Utah.
