We were flying home from Fremont California. Our second flight from Las Vegas to Columbus usually take us north of the Grand Canyon so I get a window seat on the right side of the plane. Usually I see the Grand Canyon off in the distance, but this trip our flight path took us right over the Grand Canyon. This is one of two first place favorite images for April 4.<\/p>\n\n\n

I also spotted this interesting mountain on the same flight. I had an approximate GPS location for the photo but the GPS signals on a plane tend to lag a bit. A friend of mine and I scanned satellite images for the area until we finally spotted Navajo Mountain which straddles the Utah-Arizona state line. FYI, Southwest Airlines allows the use of GPS devices on a plane. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Technically speaking you should be able to get a nice picture of the night sky from a plane in flight. Exposure times run several seconds and plane rides ore usually too bumpy. But under the right conditions (which are rare) and if you do everything right, it can happen. This photo, taken above Concordia Kansas, is my other first place favorite photo for April 4.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
