February 28, 2008.<\/figcaption><\/figure><\/div>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">I spent a few days photographing Colorado and ended up at the Great Sand Dunes. During the day the sand is light in color, much like a light colored sandy beach. Late in the day the light hits at such a severe angle that the dunes turn almost brown.<\/p>\n\n\n<p><!--more--><\/p>\n<p>It can be bitingly cold in winter in the San Luis Valley. This is high desert country with an elevation above 7,000 feet. But on this particular day temperatures reached the 40s and were drifting past 40 around sunset, so it was a pleasant day for photography. This is my favorite image for February 28.<\/p>\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-image\"><figure class=\"aligncenter\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"http:\/\/www.blog.jimdoty.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/080228-Deer-Great-Sand-Dunes-5D-6684-w8.jpg\" alt=\"Deer, Great Sand Dunes National Park, Colorado\" class=\"wp-image-8180\"\/><figcaption>Deer, Great Sand Dunes National Park, Colorado. February 28, 2008.<\/figcaption><\/figure><\/div>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Several deer were browsing not too far from the dunes.
