Five 75mm Howitzers. Concert, 1812 Overture. West Point, New York. August 31, 1991.<\/p><\/div>\n

My favorite image for August 31 comes from the United States Military Academy at West Point, New York.<\/p>\n

I was at West Point over Labor Day weekend and they had a Saturday night concert. I was listening to the 1812 Overture and when they got to the place in the music for the canons to fire, I heard a loud boom from on top of the hill to the right of the audience. I ran up the hill with a tripod and camera bag.<\/p>\n

A row of howitzers was providing the canon fire for the overture. I put my camera on the tripod and locked open the shutter long enough to capture the firing of several howitzers.<\/p>\n

Denali Sunrise, Reflection Pond. Denali National Park, Alaska. August 31, 2000.<\/p><\/div>\n

My second place choice for favorite image of the day comes from Alaska. It was sunrise and I was at Reflection Pond in Denali National Park. The light on Denali was amazing.<\/p>\n

Denali National Park is an amazing place. I high recommend you stay at Camp Denali which is near the end of the park road. Every cabin at Camp Denali has a view of Denali (Mt. McKinley).<\/p>\n

Anoush and I have been planning for months to do a photo shoot at this stream. We needed a day without too much sunlight and that kept happening when one or the other of us was on the road. We finally found a workable day that we were both in town. This is my third favorite image for August 31.<\/p>\n
