All but one of these national parks is on my list of the best national parks to photograph in winter (see my national park series below), plus you have 5 great locations to check out that aren’t in national parks. Bosque del Apache National Wildlife Refuge is one of the four or five best winter season wild bird photography locations in the U.S. Mount Crested Butte is great any time of year and especially nice in mid July when the wildflowers bloom in the high country. Mono Lake is a classic location any time of year, but can be pretty hot in the summer. The north shore of Lake Superior is also a great location in late spring when the rivers are flowing well and again in the fall.

You can read the whole Outdoor Photographer article here but the online version is text only and does not have the photos and maps that are in the printed magazine article.

Links

Winter Hot & Cold Spots in Outdoor Photographer

The Best National Parks to Photograph in Winter

One Photographer and Nine Outdoor/Travel Writers Pick the Best Winter National Parks

The National Park Series: Where to Go and When – My series of articles devoted to our national parks and the time of year each of our parks is at its photographic best..

I know, April seems like an odd time of year to write an article on winter photography hot spots.
