Christina’s World by Andrew Wyeth

Andrew Newell Wyeth died January 16, 2009 at the age of 91. Wyeth was one of the best know American painters in the mid-20th century. Much of his realistic work reflected the land and people around his home in Chadds Ford, Pennsylvania and his summer home in Cushing, Maine. Christina’s World is one of his most famous paintings.

Helga by Andrew Wyeth

The big surprise secret of his career was the Helga series, 247 paintings of his Prussian-born neighbor, painted from 1971-1985 without the knowledge of Wyeth’s wife or Helga’s husband.  The revelation of the series in 1986 took the art world by storm and made the cover of time. Millionaire Leonard E. B. Andrews purchased most of the Helga series, keeping it intact.
