The New Canon EOS 5D Mark IV

Canon announced the new Canon 5D Mark IV today. The news is all over the internet. This is a significant upgrade to the highly popular Canon 5D Mark III. Early previews for the camera look very good.

If you read the image data in Outdoor Photographer, Digital Photo Pro and other photography magazines you have already noticed that the Canon 5D Mark III is the preferred camera body for a lot of professional nature and portrait photographers. If the detailed reviews and experiences of professional photographers confirm the excellence of the Mark IV, it will be another highly popular camera with professionals and serious amateurs.

I would advise against going out and pre-ordering one today (but if you simple can’t resist a pre-order link is below). Why? Every once in a while Canon, Nikon, and other manufacturers release a camera with serious issues that don’t show up in the early reviews. It takes two of three months of hard use by professionals before the problems start showing up online. So if you can resist, wait until late November or early December before you order the camera and keep an eye out on online articles and forums to see if any problems come up. If no serious issues show up, then you can buy with confidence. It would make a very nice Christmas present for yourself.
